Communities represented in the collection include: Carcassonne, Slade, and Berea College in Kentucky; Dante, Fancy Gap, and Chilhowie in Virginia; and Fall Branch in Tennessee. The three types of Appalachian dance that are documented in the collection include: old-time square dancing, flat-footing and clogging, and two-stepping.

rights: These largely unedited recordings were made by traditional dance scholar Susan Spalding and in several instances, with videographic assistance by the Appalshop organization and Berea College students. The material designated "Beechwood" and "Step Back Cindy" originated in the process of Spalding’s production of the two documentaries "All Join Hands" and "Step Back Cindy." Copyright to "All Join Hands" and its production footage is held by Susan Spalding. Copyright to "Step Back Cindy" and its production footage is held by Appalshop.The copyright to All Join Hands and associated production footage is held by Susan Spalding.
