description: Berea College awarded Eula Hall (1927-2021) an honorary doctorate degree at the 2005 Commencement along with South African Anglican Bishop, Desmond Tutu. During the Presidency of Lyndon Johnson she joined VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and rose to prominence as an activist as a member of the local 979 community group and the Eastern Kentucky Welfare Rights Organization (EKWRO). She created the Mud Creek Water District in Floyd County, Kentucky and served as president of the Kentucky Black Lung Association. In the early 1970's she was a people's rights activist and in 1973 she established the Mud Creek Clinic.
