In this letter, Barry Bingham, journalist, college donor, and member of the Board of Trustees, expresses his pleasure in hearing that a group of Berea College students have protested in Montgomery. His work with the Pulitzer Prize advisory committee will prevent his attendance at the upcoming board meeting, where he might have talked further with Ms. Allen.

Transcript: BARRY BINGHAM LISLE BAKER, JR. EDITOR & PUBLISHER EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT & GENERAL MANAGER The Courier-Journal THE LOUISVILLE TIMES Louisville, KY. 40202 March 29, 1965 Miss Julia F. Allen Berea College Berea, Kentucky Dear Miss Allen: Thank you for your letter of March 26. I am glad to have the information about the participation of Berea in the Civil Right crisis in Alabama. A group of 58 students and faculty members seems to me a fitting indication of interest, directly in the tradition of Berea College, I am also glad that the group met with Ray Gibson while in Montgomery. I certainly wish I could have a talk with you at the time of the April board meeting. Unfortunately, it will be impossible for me to attend that session. It conflicts with the annual meeting of the Advisory Committee on the Pulitzer Prizes. This is a group of only 12 journalists who make the final recommendations for these national awards, I do not feel that I can miss the obligation to be present and to vote on the selections. I hope I will have another chance to see you in Berea before too long. With kindest regards, Yours sincerely, (signed) Barry Bingham
