Transcript: HEADS UP ALL STUDENTS!!!!!!! WOULD YOU LIKE TO MARCH ALONGSIDE THOUSANDS OF OTHER AMERICAN CITIZENS (MINISTERS, PROFESSORS, STUDENTS, ETC. FROM ALL PARTS OF THE NATION) TO THE CAPITAL BUILDING IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA, THIS COMING MONDAY? Scores of Berea students have already indicated a strong desire to join in this nation-wide pilgrimage to Montgomery, Alabama. Together with members of our faculty and administration, and with assistance from local ministers, we students are presently making all necessary arrangements for such a trip which will involve as many Berea students and faculty members as possible. We feel that the following information will enable all interested students to at least be ready TO GO when the trip finally gets underway. THE MARCH TO MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA WHERE............All participants (across the nation) will travel directly to Montgomery, Alabama WHEN .............TENTATIVELY Monday, March 15, 1965 WHY .............. In response to pleas made by The National Council of Churches, and by Dr. Martin Luther King. They have urged "ALL CHRISTIAN AMERICANS TO PERSONALLY INVOLVE THEMSELVES IN THIS MARCH, REGARDLESS OF ALL ENGAGEMENTS AT HOME OR AT SCHOOL IF SUCH IS POSSIBLE." THE TRIP FROM BEREA COLLEGE GETTING PERMISSION .... All students under 21 years of age must contact their parents for permission. Girls are to call home immediately and request their parents to send a telegram or a letter immediately, giving permission. LEAVING ......................... TENTATIVELY, this Sunday, March 14, 1965 RETURNING TO BEREA ...... TENTATIVELY, this Monday, March 15, 1965 HOW GOING .............. BUS (AND OR) CARS. (NO COST FOR STUDENTS) EXPENSES ................TENTATIVELY, NO COST FOR STUDENTS AN IMPORTANT NOTE OF SECURITY This new march which is being planned by the National Council of Churches, is being planned to resemble the Washington March in the summer of 1963. UNLIKE THE MARCHES IN SELMA, ALABAMA, THIS MARCH WILL BE MUCH LONGER, AND WILL BE MOST LIKELY A COMPLETELY SAFE MARCH FOR ALL INVOLVED.
